Privacy policy

Keep It Peaceful Ltd (kip), company number 15819791, registered in England and Wales, makes the kip app and the kip smart tag, and runs the shop at kip.life. Our registered details are on the public record at Companies House. This page says what we hold about you, what stays on your phone, and what we never do. It is written to be read.

The short version

  • The whole point of kip is less of your life on servers, so the most personal things never leave your phone: your Screen Time, your photos, your calendar.
  • We hold what we need to run your account and nothing else.
  • We do not sell data, we do not run ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. There is nothing to opt out of, because none of it happens.
  • Deleting your account in the app is real and immediate: everything we hold about you goes.

What stays on your phone, always

Your Screen Time. With your permission, kip blocks the apps you choose and shows you your own usage. Apple's design keeps that data inside a sealed part of the app on the device itself. It is drawn on your screen there and it cannot be transmitted, to us or to anyone. Our servers have never seen a minute of anyone's Screen Time.

Your photos. The pictures in your diary live on your phone and in your own iCloud, under your own Apple account. kip's servers never hold them. If you delete your kip account, the app also clears the diary's backup from your iCloud, because it is yours, not ours.

Your calendar. If you connect a calendar, kip reads it on your phone to offer your meetings a session. Your events go nowhere.

What we hold, and why

Your account. Your email address, your name, your date of birth, and the optional answers you gave when you signed up. This is how you sign in and how the app greets you.

Your kip record. Your sessions, the modes you made, your plans and reminders, and the daily totals built from them. This is what lets a new phone get your kip back, and what your insights are drawn from. It is a record of time you chose to take, not of what you did online.

Diagnostics. If the app crashes, Apple's own reporting tells us what happened, along with which phone, iOS version and app build. This exists so we can fix faults, nothing more.

We hold all of this to run kip for you. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with data brokers. No third-party analytics or advertising software runs inside the app.

Where it lives

Your account and kip record are stored with Supabase, our database provider, in the European Union (Stockholm). If you sign in with Apple, Apple handles that sign-in under its own terms. Crash reports reach us through Apple.

How we protect your data

Anything that travels between your phone and us moves over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The most sensitive things stay on your phone and never reach our servers: your Screen Time, your photos, and any calendar you connect. A connected calendar is fetched directly from your provider over HTTPS and kept only on your device, the sign-in token in the iOS Keychain and the events in the app's on-device storage, both protected by your device's built-in encryption. Access is limited to the kip app on your device. The limited account information we do hold is stored with Supabase in the European Union, protected in transit and at rest, with access restricted to the people who run kip. We do not sell your data, and deleting your account removes what we hold.

Connected calendars

Connecting a calendar is optional, and its only purpose is to show your meetings in your diary so you can make one distraction free with a tap.

Google Calendar. kip asks Google only for permission to view events on your calendars (calendar.events.readonly). It reads the title, the start and the end of events on your primary calendar. It does not read who else is invited, your notes, the location or any attachments, and it cannot add to, change or delete anything in your calendar. kip's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can withdraw kip's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Outlook. kip asks Microsoft only for basic details of your calendars (Calendars.ReadBasic). Microsoft itself withholds the meeting notes, the attendees, the location and any attachments, so those are never given to kip. You can withdraw access at any time at microsoft.com/consent.

Your iPhone's own calendar. Apple offers no read-only option for calendars, so an app that reads your events must ask for full access. kip asks because there is no smaller option, and kip only ever reads: the title, the start and the end. It never writes to, changes or deletes anything. You can withdraw this in iOS Settings, under Privacy and Security, then Calendars.

Deleting your account

Settings → Account → Delete account. It happens straight away and it is not a soft delete: your account, sessions, modes, plans, stats and devices are removed from our database, and if you signed in with Apple we also tell Apple to sever the connection. Routine short-term database backups expire on a rolling schedule. Your tag keeps working as an object, and your photos remain yours in your own iCloud until the app clears the backup as part of deletion.

The shop, kip.life

The shop is separate from the app and runs on Shopify. When you buy a tag, Shopify and its payment providers handle your order and payment; we never see your card number. Your name and delivery address are shared with the couriers who bring your order, and with nobody else. Order records are kept for as long as UK tax law requires, which is why deleting your kip account removes your app data but not your shop receipts. If you opt in to emails, they are sent through Klaviyo and every one carries an unsubscribe link that works. The website uses cookies and similar tools, including Meta's advertising tools that measure whether our ads brought you here; your browser settings and the site's cookie controls apply there.

Shopify also processes some shop data for its own platform purposes, as its own controller; its side of the story, and your controls over it, live at privacy.shopify.com. Our shop partners (Shopify, Klaviyo and Meta) can process data outside the UK and Europe; where they do, the recognised legal safeguards apply, such as standard contractual clauses. The app's database does not travel: it stays in Stockholm.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it (the app's delete button is the fastest road), and object to how we use it. Email hello@kip.life and a person will answer. Keep It Peaceful Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration ZC111545. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.

Children

kip is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly hold their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with its date. We will not quietly widen what we collect: the promises above are the product.
